(Neb.)-Heavy Wind Damage Reported In Central Nebraska

By: Roxie Graham-Marski Posted at: 04/09/2013 11:20 AM
(ASSOCIATED PRESS) - Violent winds from a cold front have whipped through several parts of Nebraska, damaging buildings, toppling power poles and injuring at least one person.
The front also dropped heavy rain in some areas, including more than 3.5 inches in central Nebraska's Rockville.
North Bend officials told the Fremont Tribune that two people were inside a home that was heavily damaged by an estimated 65-mph gust, and one of them was taken to Fremont Area Medical Center for treatment.
University of Nebraska at Kearney spokeswoman Kelly Bartling says the roof of the university library was heavily damaged, with pieces of it strewn throughout the campus.
To the west in the Nebraska Panhandle, heavy snow has forced the closure of several highways, including Interstate 80 into Wyoming.
