(Gering)-The following is from Chris Ford with the Department of Roads in Gering, and was updated as of 7:38 am, Tuesday, April 9:
Conditions in the panhandle continue to be poor. High winds, blowing snow, stranded motorists, and abandoned vehicles complicate snow removal efforts. NSP and NDOR rescued several motorists during the night but some still remain stranded. The following highways are closed:
I-80 is closed from Sidney to Cheyenne
Hwy 30 is closed from Sidney to the Wyoming line
Hwy 71 is closed from Kimball to Gering
L62A is closed from the north Bayard junction to Hwy 385
Hwy 385 is closed from Bridgeport to Chadron
Hwy 20 is closed from Chadron to Hay Springs
Hwy 88 is closed from Bridgeport to the Wyoming line
Travel is not recommended on any highways in the Panhandle. The closures are expected to remain in place all day and possibly until Wednesday.
KCSR/KBPY has also learned that Hwy 385 north to South Dakota is closed.
Hwy 20 west from Chadron to the Wyoming state line is currently still open, but extreme caution is advised as there are severe ice and snow driving conditions and strong winds.
