(Neb.)-Public Invited To Chadron Public Library Architectural Sessions  Listen

By: Roxie Graham-Marski Posted at: 03/21/2013 02:03 PM

(CHADRON)-The Chadron Public Library is moving forward with its plans for renovation and expansion. Director Rossella Tesch says the library was built in 1912 and has not been renovated since 1960. Book shelves are packed, there is no more room for storage, meetings, or additional computers, the elevator is not working, the cables and wiring have become a confusing mess. Tesch said quite frankly the facility is worn out and in desperate need of updating.

Tesch said three architectural firms will be giving public presentations at City Hall council chambers next week as they vie to work on a library renovation project opportunity. On Monday, March 25th at 6:00 p.m., Humphries|Poli Architects from Denver, Colo. will present their ideas; on Tuesday, March 26th at 6:00 p.m., Geiger Architecture from Rapid City, S.D. will be the presenter; and a representative from Bahr Vermeer Haecker from Lincoln will visit on Thursday, March 28th at 6:00 p.m.
Tesch invites members of the public to attend each presentation, which can also be viewed live on the city’s local access channel, Great Plains channel 19, and then give their feedback on which firm they think would be the best candidate to work on a renovation and expansion project for the library.

Feedback forms will be available for public comment at each of the presentations and online at www.chadronpubliclibrary.com. Feedback can also be e-mailed to cpublib507@gmail.com. Feedback forms need to make their way back to the library by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 5th.
Tesch states the library constantly strives to meet the needs and demands of the community it serves. “Our mission is to be the living room of Chadron,” she says. The facility has a new “Coffee Cove” that provides patrons with the opportunity to sip hot drinks and read books in a comfortable environment with the request of a small donation. She said the downstairs children and teen areas, as well as the computers, are always busy as well.
For more on the library renovation and expansion project, tune in to Stereo AM 610’s community focus program on Thursday at about 4:40 p.m. to hear more from library director Rossella Tesch.
