(Neb.)-CPS Board Discuss Safety Prodecdures
(Chadron)- The Chadron School Board met at their regularly scheduled meeting on Monday evening. Honors handed out at the meeting went to Cathy Kaus who was recognized as the DAR Nebraska History Teacher of the Year.
The board was also set to discuss further action on a high school pod lighting project along with an alley right away agreement with the city of Chadron. Both items were held off on at this time as corrections and updates were being made to both proposals.
In new business discussed last night, several policies were under review from the school board as some of the policies mentioned at the meeting had been adopted in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. Action taken on those policies weren’t necessarily to update or change policies, but to make the wording more current.
The 2013-2014 school calendar has also been approved by the board. The 2013 year will start on August 15th for the students and end on May 20th of 2014.
Superintendent Caroline Winchester made it known that the state fire marshal had recently performed an inspection and found that 85 doors in the Chadron school systems need to be replaced and brought up to current fire rated code.
Chadron Police Officer Aron Chrisman was in attendance at last nights meeting. Officer Chrisman discussed revisions made to the school safety procedure, and ways that the Chadron PD will handle certain situations at any of the schools.
Chrisman said he has also started employees of the district on a Safe School Program that provides several training modules geared toward specific happenings.
The school board will meet next on the 11th of March at 5:30 p.m.
