(Neb.)-Company Eyes Wind Energy Tests In Cherry County

By: Chris Fankhauser Posted at: 02/06/2013 08:04 AM

VALENTINE, Neb. (AP) - A company wants to check the potential for a wind farm in Nebraska's Cherry County.
Bluestem Sandhills LLC is awaiting approval from the Cherry County Board of Commissioners before setting up four monitoring towers.
Zoning administrator Jim Edwards says the 60-meter towers would contain monitors to gather data about wind speeds and directions at multiple heights.
He says developers would have to go through another permit process to put up turbines for wind energy production.
Eric Johnson of Bluestem Sandhills says the company is a long way from developing a wind farm in Cherry County.
A public hearing about the towers is scheduled for Tuesday at the courthouse in Valentine.
