(S.D.)-Native American Collection To Stay At Arts Center
By: Roxie Graham-Marski Posted at: 02/01/2013 08:46 AM SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A collection of Native American artwork seized by the Internal Revenue Service will remain at the Washington Pavilion's Visual Arts Center.
The 16-piece collection on loan to the center for more than a decade was seized from the nonprofit American Indian Services in September because of delinquent tax bill of more than $118,000. The artwork includes sculpture, beadwork, ledger art and other pieces.
Pavilion President Larry Toll was the only bidder on the aggregate collection on Thursday, placing the minimum $24,750 bid set by the government.
Toll says Augustana College was a major donor to the fund to keep the collection together, and it will be named after the Sioux Falls school.
