PINE RIDGE, S.D. (AP) - Officials on a South Dakota Indian Reservation say a campaign led by an 11-year-old California boy has resulted in the delivery of about 150 winter coats for kids.
The Burbank, Calif., youngster started coat drive after seeing video footage about conditions on the Pine Ridge reservation. The coats were delivered last week.
Tribal Family Developer Annabelle Black Bear says the warm clothes are much needed, especially for older children on the reservation. She says some of the kids have been walking around wearing hoodies.
Black Bear says the gesture has provided people on the reservation with hope.
"We need to see the world through a child's eyes sometimes," she says.
