(S.D.)-Slash Piles Being Burned By Deadwood

Spearfish, SD – Beginning today, fire crews on the Northern Hills Ranger District will be burning machine slash piles from the Minnesota Box Timber Sale along Snowmobile Trail 7C through the weekend.

Trail 7C is located south of Deadwood, SD off of US Hwy 385 and ends near Custer Peak.

“Lack of snow on the trail surface in the area is making riding conditions poor and we encourage snowmobilers to find an alternative riding opportunity while this critical fuel reduction operation is completed,” said Scott Haas, Recreation/Lands/Minerals Staff Officer, Northern Hills Ranger District.

 Smoke could be visible through the weekend and smoldering material may continue to burn for several days after burning operations are completed.
