(Neb.)-New Sidewalk Ordinance Aims To Alleviate Residents' Concerns  Listen

By: Roxie Graham-Marski Posted at: 01/24/2013 10:17 AM

(CHADRON)-Ordinance No. 1363 made its way before the Chadron city council for its third and final time at this week’s meeting. City building/zoning official Janet Johnson said the ordinance sought to amend portions of two sidewalk sections of city code to make it easier for residents to repair sidewalks as needed.
Two main changes were made to the ordinance. Johnson says the first one was weather-related.

The second change attempted to clarify for individuals with current sidewalks or those considering a new sidewalk which size sidewalk they were expected to repair or install.

In any new neighborhoods and subdivisions as of January 21st of this year, five foot sidewalks are also required. Otherwise, those who are requested to repair or replace a sidewalk in an established part of town are able to do so at four-foot width.
Johnson says the changes came about because of the confusion and concerns residents had about the way the previous code read.
