(Neb.)-Miss America Preliminary Competition Continues
(Las Vegas)-Once again, young women from across the nation delighted the audience at Planet Hollywood Live in Las Vegas, Nevada, for night number two of preliminary competition in the Miss America Pageant. There are 53 girls vying for the crown this year.
On Wednesday evening, Miss Nebraska Mariah Cook addressed the audience at the beginning of the show by offering support for fellow Chadron State College alum Danny Woodhead, cheering, "Go Patriots!" Later on in the show, she took part in the swimwear competition and evening gown. One girl is chosen from the talent and swimwear event each evening for a scholarship, with Miss Illinois winning the swimwear, and Miss Maryland taking the scholarship in talent.
Cook took part in the on-stage question during the first night of preliminaries Tuesday, and she will showcase her talent Thursday evening, with a piano piece. The final night of the competition will narrow down the contestants to the top 15, with one girl chosen by the fans. Those wishing to submit a vote for Cook can do so by going to the Miss America web page, www.missamerica.org, and voting.
The final night of competition will begin at 5 pm local time in Las Vegas, but broadcast times will vary in the different time zones.
