GERING, Nebrasks (AP) - Authorities say a western Nebraska teenager was killed when she tried to cross in front of a moving train early Sunday.
The 17-year-old Gering girl was driving south on 21st Avenue, just east of Gering, when the accident happened around 1:30 a.m. Sunday.
Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's Lt. Rick Spencer says the girl drove around the crossing arms blocking the road at the train crossing just before the accident happened.
An eastbound train struck the passenger side of the girl's vehicle. She died later at Regional West Medical Center.
The girl's name wasn't immediately released.
The train crossing was closed until about 5 a.m. while the accident was cleaned up and investigated.
