(Neb.)- Neb. Officials To Recoup Unemployment Payments
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Nebraska says it will recoup improperly paid unemployment benefits by withholding federal income tax refunds.
The state labor department says nearly 14,000 individuals have until Feb. 6 to pay back the benefits, which were either given out through fraud or wage reporting errors.
Labor officials say new legislation allows the state to collect remaining debts through federal income tax refunds. It previously only took from state income tax refunds.
The department expects to get an additional $4 million from the new collection option.
