(Neb.)-Chadron "Click It Or Ticket" Program Shows Payoff
(Chadron)-The Chadron Police Department once again participated in the state wide “Click it or Ticket” campaign during the week of November 19, 2012 to November 25, 2012 thanks to a grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety. Ten patrol officers and three dispatchers participated in the campaign. A total of 52 hours were worked utilizing a total of $1379.96 in grant dollar provided by the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety.
During the week long enforcement period, 15 traffic citations and 146 warnings were issued to motor vehicle drivers along with 2 citations for seat belt violations and the good news is; no citations were issued for child restraint violations. Other violations drivers were cited for include speeding, stop sign violations, driving under suspension, no operator’s license, misuse of learner’s permit, and unlawful display of plates.
A survey was conducted during the week of November 5, 2012 to observe seat belt usage. The result of the survey showed 62 percent of drivers in Chadron were using their seat belts. A second survey was conducted after the campaign during the week of November 26, 2012. The result showed an increase by 8 percent with 70 percent of drivers using their seat belt.
The Chadron Police Department would like to thank the community and the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety for supporting our efforts to increase awareness and inform the public of the importance of proper seat belt usage. Wearing your seatbelt saves lives and prevents needless injuries during motor vehicle accidents; and it is the law!
