(Neb.)-Christmas Tree Permits Now Available In Nebraska

By: Chris Fankhauser Posted at: 11/19/2012 08:07 AM

(Chadron)-Permits for those who want a fresh-cut Christmas tree will go on sale beginning Monday (today) at the Pine Ridge Ranger District. The permits entitle the purchaser to harvest one ponderosa pine, up to 15 feet tall from selected areas in the Nebraska National Forest near Chadron.

The permits are $10 and available at the Pine Ridge District office at 125 North Main Street in Chadron, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Each permit includes cutting guidelines, travel recommendations and a free motorized vehicle users map, or MVUM to show roads and trails open for the public to find their tree.

Only areas designated on the permit map are open to Christmas tree cutting.   Areas excluded from cutting include all areas burned in the 2012 wildfires and the 2006 Spotted Tail Fire as well as lands in or around Pine Ridge Job Corps, Red Cloud Campground or the Cliffs picnic area. For more information please visit our website at www.fs.fed.us/r2/nebraska.
