(S.D.)-Voters Reject Governor Daugaard's Top Initiatives
By: Roxie Graham-Marski Posted at: 11/08/2012 08:45 AM SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard says he and the Legislature will have to take another look at education and economic development issues now that voters have rejected two of his main proposals in those areas.
Voters defeated Daugaard's plan to set up incentive grants to attract large industrial projects to South Dakota. They also turned down the Republican governor's plan to give bonuses to top teachers and recruit more teachers in critical fields.
Daugaard says some parts of the education bill might be resurrected by lawmakers. And he says Republicans and Democrats need to reach agreement on some way to attract large industrial projects.
The governor is pleased that voters rejected a proposed sales tax increase that would have given more money to schools and health care.
