(Neb.)-Cardinal Singers Receive Gold For Show Choir Performance
(Chadron)-For the first time in over 20 years, a Chadron High School performing ensemble received a gold award for show choir competition. The Chadron High School Cardinal Singers performed at the Old West Show Choir Competition Saturday in Scottsbluff.
The group performed several vocal numbers with choreography. In the initial competition, the groups in each division were graded and received a ranking of either gold, silver or bronze. There were three other schools in Chadron’s division, with one other school also receiving a gold rating. The biggest kudo, however, was when only seven of the groups were asked to return for an evening performance, and an overall competition between all of the different divisions.
According to Cardinal Singer director Jon Marquez, the last group that received a gold was in 1990, but this group is the first that has been asked to return and perform again. Although no additional awards were given to the group, Marquez is excited because a majority of the members are under-classmen, meaning most of them will return next year.
The judges sheets indicated that the Cardinal Singers were one of the strongest vocal groups performing.
