(Wyo.)-Junior ROTC Members Help Restore Charred Casper Mountain
By: Roxie Graham-Marski Posted at: 11/05/2012 09:20 AM CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - Members of the Junior ROTC program at Natrona County High School are doing their part to restore areas scorched by a wildfire that destroyed 37 homes and cabins on Casper Mountain.
The students, a group of 10 joined by two commanding officers, worked at a site on the southern slope of the mountain Saturday. The effort was part of a National Public Lands Day program sponsored by the Casper Field Office of the Bureau of Land Management.
The student volunteers spent their time Saturday planting ponderosa seedlings and building erosion barriers.
The 24-square-mile fire started Sept. 9 and is believed to be human caused.
