(S.D.)-Man Convicted In 1990 Child Killing Says He's Ready To Die
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A man convicted of killing a 9-year-old South Dakota girl two decades ago says he's ready to die.
Donald Moeller is scheduled for lethal injection Tuesday night at the state penitentiary in Sioux Falls. It will be South Dakota's second execution this month.
Moeller kidnapped Becky O'Connell from a Sioux Falls convenience store in 1990, then raped and killed her in a secluded area near the Big Sioux River.
Her body was found the next day. Investigators say she'd been stabbed and her throat was slashed.
Moeller was convicted in 1992, but the state Supreme Court overturned it. He was convicted again and received a death sentence in 1997.
Even though the 60-year-old has insisted he's ready to die, motions have been filed on his behalf to stop the execution.
