(Neb.)-Actors To Portray Historic Characters During Cemetery Tours
(Chadron)-A new event will be taking place during Fur Trade Days this weekend, and organizers hope this will become an annual activity. Sharon Rickenbach was on KCSR’s Live @ 4 on Tuesday, and said there will be Greenwood Cemetery Tours taking place on Saturday afternoon and evening.
Although the initial tour will be at Greenwood, Rickenbach hopes to include Calvary Cemetery in the future. The first tour will honor six citizens that played an important part in Chadron’s history, one of which had a different focus than the others. The citizens will be portrayed by area actors and actresses, and provide a bit of living history for those on the tour.
Each citizen will be represented by two performers. Mary E. Smith-Hayward will be portrayed by Tena Cook, who stated she really enjoyed researching her character, and will probably continue to do so after the tours are completed. Emily Klein will also portray this character.
Tours will take place on Saturday, at 4 pm and 7 pm. The cost of the tour is $7.50 for adults, and free for children 15 and under. All proceeds from this event benefit the cemetery kiosk directory upkeep. The kiosk touch screen directory lists over 6,000 names of those buried at Greenwood and Calvary cemeteries. Plans are also underway to build a gazebo to protect the kiosk from the elements.
Tickets for the tours are available at the gate.
