(Chadron)-The Dawes County Commissioners are meeting in Chadron today(Wednesday), with a regular agenda. Some of the items they have discussed thus far include opening bids for a used tractor for the roads department, tree replacement at the Dawes County Courthouse, approving a resolution for a Local Emergency Operations Plan, and gaining information on the VetrSpec program for the Veterans' Service Office.
The Board accepted the two bids for the tractor, but agreed to postpone a decision on the purchase until the tractors submitted for the bids can be reviewed. The bids were from Henkins Equipment of Chadron and Horizon West, Inc., of Scottsbluff. Dawes County Veterans' Service Officer Mike Kohler provided information to the Board on the VetrSpec computer program, stating the Nebraska Department of Veterans' Affairs is using the program, and counties can purchase a license to use that as well. Kohler said several area counties are already utilizing this service, including Sheridan, Box Butte, Banner and Scotts Bluff counties. VetrSpec allows local offices to enter information about veterans that will then be accessible by other offices using the program.
Also scheduled for this afternoon is the reviewing of applications for the Weed Superintendent. All meetings are open to the public. More specific information on the meeting will be available later this afternoon.
