(Neb.)-Reading Programs And Other Upcoming Activities In Alliance

(ALLIANCE)-There are a variety of upcoming activities taking place in Alliance. Final bids for the Read Around the Posies Silent Auction will be accepted on Saturday, May 19th, at noon. Auction proceeds will be used to enhance library technology. Don’t miss the opportunity to purchase a beautiful flower pot arrangement to give as a gift or enjoy on your own patio!
Season passes for the 2012 swimming season at Big Blue Bay are now available at the Knight Museum and Sandhills Center, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please bring an individual 1” x 1” photo of each individual pass holder. If you do not have a photo, one can be taken for $2. Season pass prices are as follows: Household, $130; 17 and under, $50; 18 and older, $70 and Lap Swim Only, $35.
The Alliance Public Library is offering three summer reading programs this year. Registration for the “Read for a Ride” program will be Tuesday, May 22nd-Friday, June 1st. This program is based on an accelerated reading goal, and if met, the student will be issued $15 in Chamber bucks, which can be turned in for a carnival ride bracelet or spent at participating local businesses. The “Dream Big” program will run June 4th-August 3rd and will be based on a reading log that students must complete and submit to the library to earn weekly Pizza Hut certificates. A special program for children who have not yet entered school called “Read to Me” is based on the amount of time that the child has been read to. If the reading log is completed and turned in, the child will receive a weekly Dairy Queen certificate. “Read to Me” will run from June 4th-August 3rd. The Spring Affair West Plant Sale will be held Friday, May 18th until 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, May 19th, from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. in the former Alco building located at 1327 W. Third Street.
The Alliance Visitor’s Bureau will be conducting Red Carpet Service Excellence training on Thursday, May 24th at 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. at the Visitor’s Bureau office at 305 Box Butte Avenue. Training is limited, so call 762-3876 to reserve your space.
Decorations may be placed on graves at the Alliance Cemetery for Memorial Day beginning Friday, May 25th, and should be picked up by Sunday, June 3rd. Items not removed will be picked up on Monday, June 4th and disposed of.
City crews are in the process of routine spring time maintenance of the Central Park Fountain. The fountain will be turned on during the Memorial Day weekend for the summer season.
