(Neb.) - Authorites asking for help after Chadron robbery

By: John Thayer Posted at: 05/01/2012 04:58 PM
CHADRON - Authorities are looking for individuals who were involved with a robbery at the Common Cents convenience store in Chadron.

The Chadron Police Department observed a vehicle speeding north on main street through the communications center. Sergeant Loutzenhiser left in pursuit of the vehicle and while trying to catch up to the vehicle the communications center broadcasted information that a robbery had just occurred at Common Cents and provided a vehicle description that matched the vehicle officers were pursuing. The suspects were driving an older model light blue Ford pickup.

Officers found the vehicle wrecked at the intersection of McHenry Road and Slim Buttes Road, approximately six miles Northeast of Chadron. The vehicle was found unoccupied and still running when officers arrived on scene.

The Chadron Police Department was assisted by the Nebraska State Patrol, Dawes County Sheriff's office and the Pine Ridge Police Department as they conducted a two hour long search, but were unable to locate the suspects.

Two male suspects entered Common Cents with blankets on their heads in an attempt to conceal their identity. One of the suspects went straight to the coolers, while the other stood near the front counter and told the store clerk "do not do anything," while pointing something under the blanket at the clerk. The suspects left with two 30-packs of beer.

The Chadron Police Department is continuing its investigation into the incident and encourages anyone with information to contact the Chadron Police Department at 308-432-0510 or may remain anonymous by calling the Dawes County Crime Stoppers at 308-432-0519. Up to $1,000 reward may be paid for information leading to the arrest and indictment of those responsible for this crime.
