(Neb.) - County Attorney/Coroner injured in two vehicle crash
CHADRON - Dawes County Attorney/Coroner Vance Haug and a juvenile passenger were transported to Chadron Community Hospital Sunday afternoon after the motorcycle they were riding on was involved in an accident with another vehicle.
Authorities say 47-year-old Haug was traveling South on Highway 385 and was making a left turn onto West 6th Street when his motorcycle was struck by a 2012 Buick Lacrosse driven by 81-year-old Clyde Weappa of Rapid City, S.D. According to authorities Haug failed to yield the right of way and turned in front of Weappa, causing the accident.
Weappa and his female passenger did not report any injuries. The car they were driving sustained minor damage. There was also minor damage to the 2008 Kawasaki motorcycle.
Drugs and alcohol were not a factor in the crash.
Haug was issued a citation for a city ordinance violation of failure to yield right of way, according to police.
The extent of the injuries are unknown, but were classified by police as "non-life threatening". A message left Monday morning for hospital administrator Harold Krueger was not immediately returned.
The Chadron Police Department was assisted by the Nebraska State Patrol in the crash investigation.
