(Neb.) - NSP Troopers Conduct Initial 2012 Community Celebration Enforcement Operation
(Scottsbluff, NE)- The Nebraska State Patrol conducted a special enforcement operation focusing on impaired driving on Friday April 20, 2012 in Cheyenne County. The selective enforcement was possible due to a $5695.00 grant funded by the Panhandle Prevention Coalition (PPC) that focuses on community celebrations. The next scheduled event is scheduled for May 5, 2012 in Dawes County.
The PPC grant will allow the Nebraska State Patrol to put extra troopers on the roads during local celebrations and will continue throughout the summer. The troopers will be putting extra emphasis on removing impaired drivers from the roadways. In the past two years impaired driving has been involved in nearly 40 percent of fatal accidents in the Nebraska Panhandle.
The Cheyenne County enforcement initiative resulted in the arrest of one impaired driver and one person for driving on a suspended license.
Motorists are asked to please buckle up and never drive impaired.
The Nebraska State Patrol offers a Highway Helpline for anyone who observes a recklessor impaired driver, or anyone in need of non-emergency roadside assistance. The Highway Helpline can be accessed by dialing (star) *55 on any cellular phone or 1-800-525-5555 from any landline.
