(Wyo.) - Air Nat'l Guard practices aerial firefighting
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - The Wyoming Air National Guard is getting ready for wildfire season by practicing aerial firefighting.
Guard members plan to drop loads of water from C-130 transport planes on flights at the Camp Guernsey Training Center on Wednesday.
The Wyoming Air National Guard is one of four military units in the country that is equipped with a system that allows its planes to drop 3,000 gallons of fire retardant at a time. The unit has been involved in aerial firefighting since 1975 and has fought fires throughout the country and in Indonesia.
Unfavorable weather caused a last-minute cancellation of a training mission in February.
