(Neb.)-Chadron City Manager-Elect Declines Offer, Green Light On Storm Water Project Listen
(CHADRON)-It was an interesting turn of events at the Chadron city council meeting Monday evening. Two of the night’s biggest items were the council’s official 5-0 vote to proceed into the next phase with the Leo A. Daly engineering firm regarding the city’s storm water project. The decision did not come easily. The council spent a lengthy time weighing all aspects of the situation again. Council member Levi Grant concluded that “it’s a gamble” either way, but the council felt that this way at least a variety of questions can be answered so the city knows which direction it most needs to head.
The other major news of the night: City manager-elect Chuck Leyden called today to decline the city’s job offer. Mayor Karin Fischer was not ready to say what happened or why he made that decision, but she did say that the council was caught off guard by the outcome. Council member Jim Mapes said “the sooner the better” to resume the search. The council has planned a special meeting for 6:00 p.m. on Monday, April 23rd to discuss their options.
We will have more details from city council to follow.
