(S.D.) - Warm weather leads to jump in fishing licenses
By: John Thayer Posted at: 04/16/2012 09:59 AM SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Sales of annual resident fishing licenses have more than doubled in South Dakota thanks to an unseasonably warm spring.
The state Game, Fish and Parks Department had sold 18,917 annual resident licenses as of March 27, outpacing the 7,867 sold by the same date in 2011 by 140 percent.
Annual resident combination licenses, which include fishing and small game hunting, have jumped more than 42 percent over the year to top 23,000.
The department also has noticed a bump in nonresident one-day, three-day, annual and family fishing licenses. Sales of each of those have more than doubled.
