(Neb.) - Southeast Nebraska suffers storm damage
NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. (AP) - Fruit orchard and home owners in southeast Nebraska are cleaning up after being hit hard by severe storms that raked the Midwest this weekend.
The Otoe County Emergency Manager's office said two storms swept the county Saturday. One struck near Cook in Johnson County, destroying three homes before moving into neighboring Otoe County, and another hit north of Nebraska City.
Dorthea Fairbanks of Nebraska City tells the station that she and her grandchildren made to her home's basement just before the roof was ripped off.
About one mile west, more than 150 apple and cherry trees were turned over. Kimmel Orchard and Vineyard representative Erik Olson says the most expensive damage was the destruction of a shed containing tractors, graders and other equipment.
