(S.D.) - 'Stinky hookah smell' riles Rapid City businesses

By: John Thayer Posted at: 04/12/2012 08:13 AM
RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - The owner of a downtown Rapid City building has leased space to two tobacco parlors, and other businesses are complaining about the stench.
The hookah lounges cater to people who like to smoke tobacco in water pipes. Two of them have opened in the Buell Building in the past month.
Cosmetics shop owner Susan Grubl says the stink was so bad she thought the building was on fire. She closed her store and posted a sign saying it was shut because of the "stinky hookah smell."
Heather Payden-Williams owns a massage business in the building. She says the smoke gives her a headache and makes her eyes red.
Building owner Ron Bazac said he's trying to work out the problem.
