LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - The roadside memorials families and friends set up after losing a loved one in a car accident could face new restrictions in Nebraska.
State Sen. Charlie Janssen of Fremont introduced a bill (LB 856) on Monday to require the Department of Roads to develop rules for those memorials.
State officials have said previously that the makeshift roadside memorials on state-owned rights of way can be a dangerous distraction to drivers.
In 2004, a television cameraman was killed in a west Omaha accident while he was working on a story about an intersection where two teens had died. The cameraman was hit by a passing car while filming a memorial honoring the two teens.
