04/22/2017 - William Cody Tail

Funeral services for William Cody Tail “Tasunke Obnajin,” age 27, will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Porcupine School Gymnasium in Porcupine, SD. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Eric Cross.
 
Burial will be at St. Alban’s Cemetery in Evergreen, SD.
 
A two-night wake service will begin at 3:00 PM on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at the Porcupine School Gymnasium in Porcupine, SD.
 
William Cody Tail, known by many as Cody, was born on January 8, 1990 in Pine Ridge, SD to Eli J. Tail Jr. and Jackie (Elk Boy) Tail. He made his journey to the Spirit World on April 12, 2017 at his home in Evergreen, SD.
 
Cody started dancing at powwows at age seven in the Grass Dance category and continued until his late teens. Cody graduated eighth grade at Pahin Sinte Owayawa and attended PineRidgeHigh School. He loved playing basketball and horseback riding (and was the family horse whisperer). He rode many years in several spiritual rides including the Crazy Horse Ride, the Big Foot Ride, the Future Generations Ride, the Little Big Horn Ride, and the Warrior’s Ride. Cody was also an accomplished artist. Cody loved the challenge of a good horseshoe tournament and often played with his Grandpa Eli.
 
Cody will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.
 
Cody is survived by brothers Eli Tail III, Ethan Tail, Lucas Tail, Julian Tail, Francis Red Feather and Emory Red Feather, all of Porcupine, SD; sisters Elina Tail, Holly Tail, Molly Tail, Georgene Tail and Selena Tail, all of Porcupine, SD, and Cherish Tail of Allen, SD; paternal grandparents Eli Tail Sr. and Carolyn Tail of Porcupine, SD; and numerous aunts and uncles. Cody was a fun loving, generous and kind uncle to his 19 nieces and nephews.
 
He was preceded in death by parents Eli Tail Jr. and Jackie Tail.
 
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for William Cody Tail “Tasunke Obnajin.”
