Memorial services for Nancy L. Nelson, 68, of Chadron, NE will be will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron, NE with Pastor Aaron Sprock officiating.
A memorial has been established for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, PO Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337.
Nancy went to heaven on Monday, January 9, 2017 at Chadron Community Hospital. She was surrounded by her husband, children and grandchildren.
Nancy was born on November 27, 1948 to Maurice and Gelene (North) Brady in Imperial, NE. She was the oldest of five children. She grew up and attended public school in Imperial, NE and graduated from Chase County High School in 1967. Following graduation, she moved to Chadron to attend Chadron State College, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 1971. She went on to teach 1st-3rd grade at Whitney, NE.
Nancy loved to work and at an early age began babysitting for 2 and 3 families a day. In the 6th grade, she started working at the local library, putting books away after school. During her freshman and sophomore year in high school, she worked for the Trautman’s at the Sweden Creme. Her junior and senior years, she worked at Einspahr’s Drug Store.
Nancy met Roger L. Nelson while attending Chadron State, and they were married on August 25, 1968. To this marriage, Angela Kay and David Roger were born. The family moved to Grand Island, NE in 1976, where Nancy began working for Walden Bookstore in the evenings. Nancy took pride in being a stay-at-home mom during the day. After surviving the tornadoes of 1980, the family moved to Pueblo, CO, where Nancy continued to be a stay-at-home mom. During the summer of 1992, Roger, Nancy and David moved back to Chadron to own and operate Valentino’s restaurant. Angela later joined them.
Nancy’s passions included playing bridge, baking, crafting, decorating her home, reading children’s books, planting flowers, writing letters, going to garage sales and raising her children. Shortly after moving back to Chadron, her passion became her grandchildren.
Nancy was preceded in death by her father and two brothers.
Survivors include husband of 49 years Roger of Chadron, NE; daughter Angela and son-in-law Tony of Chadron, NE; son David of Chadron, NE; granddaughters Ashtyn, Courtney and Brinnley and grandsons Bryce and EJ of Chadron, NE; great-granddaughter Ella of Chadron, NE; mother Gelene Brady of Imperial, NE; brother Bob Brady of Brighton, CO; sister Bev Brady of Alberton, MT; many nieces and nephews; and beloved dog Buddy.
