Memorial services for Lottie Mae Markham Nicks, age 94, of Chadron, will be Sunday, January 12, 2014 at 3:00 PM at Crest View Healthcare Community in Chadron.
Funeral services will be Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 10:00 AM at Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman Texas, with Toby Soechting and Darrel Knote officiating.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 9:00 AM.
Burial at the Avery Texas Cemetery at 3:00 PM.
Memorials have been established for In Search of the Lord’s Way P.O. Box 371, Edmond, OK 73083-9901, Chadron Church of Christ 502 Mears Street, Chadron, NE 69337, and Howe Church of Christ P.O. Box 275, Howe, Texas 75459.
Lottie died January 4, 2014 at Crest View Healthcare Community in Chadron, Nebraska. Lottie Mae Markham Nicks was born December 9, 1919 at Avery, Red River County, Texas to Charles and Mary Dunson Markham. She married Thomas George “T. G.” Nicks June 24, 1939 in Avery, Texas.
T. G. and Lottie farmed near Avery Texas until they moved to Petersburg, Texas during the summer of 1953. While living in Petersburg, Texas, Lottie was employed in the Petersburg Cotton Gin office during the cotton harvest season. After moving to Sherman, Texas in February, 1955, Lottie was employed by Pools Manufacturing, Burlington Mills, then Texas Instruments until her retirement in 1982.
Lottie was a faithful Christian having obeyed the Gospel in 1935 at the age of sixteen. She was a member of various Churches of Christ throughoutl the years wherever she lived and had been a member of the Howe Church of Christ, Howe, Texas since 1995. After moving to Chadron, Nebraska in 2008 to be near her daughter, she was a member of the Chadron Church of Christ.
She took great pride in her cooking, sewing, and being an excellent homemaker, wife and mother as well a great friend to many.
Immediate Survivors:
Daughter: Linda Knote and husband Darrel of Chadron, Nebraska.
Grandsons: Thomas Knote of Chadron, Nebraska, and Wayne Knote and wife Amanda of Hemingford, Nebraska
Great granddaughters: Emily Rae Knote and Sara Christine Knote of Hemingford, Nebraska.
Brother-in-law: James Nicks and wife, Frieda of Garland, Texas.
Sister-in-laws: Ruth Markham of Avery Texas, Donia Bea McGregor of New Boston, Texas, and Effie Kelso of Avery, Texas.
Nieces and nephews: numerous, including a special nephew, Jay Lynn Preston.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, T. G. parents and sisters: Margie Johnson, Clora Preston, and half-sister, Glendora Gossett; brothers: Alvie Markham, Ancel Markham, Arvil Markham, John Markham, and Lonnie Markham.
Honorary casket bearers are all of Lottie’s family and friends.
Waldo Funeral Home and Chamberlain Chapel are in charge of arrangements
