Yvonne passed away peacefully July 13, 2013 at Gordon Countryside Care.
Yvonne Geraldine Goshorn was born June 11, 1922, to Howard and Blanche (Kinder) Goshorn at Wakefield, Nebraska. They moved to Gordon when she was very young. There she was raised with her three sisters Dee, Rosie and Donna Belle and one brother Duane. She graduated from Gordon High School in 1940.
She was united in marriage to Leonard Sandage on October 5, 1943 in Seattle, Washington while he was on leave. She then returned to Gordon and continued to work until his discharge from the Navy in 1945. Upon his return they moved to their farm west of Gordon and officially began their married life together. Yvonne was a wonderful homemaker. She was an amazing wife, cook, gardner, hunter, pig chaser (not her favorite activity) neighbor and friend. She accomplished all of this while also working outside the home at various clothing shops.
Two children were born to this union, Gary Len and Arlana Von. She adored her children and later her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Leonard and Yvonne dearly enjoyed spending time with friends and neighbors, going to dances, visiting and playing cards. She was a great hostess and loved to feed people.
They moved to Gordon in 1975. She worked at Saub’s department store for many years. She loved having her grandchildren and their friends come to their home and they were always well fed, their favorite food of course. They bought a camper after moving to town and spent many weekends camping and fishing with friends. Yvonne always enjoyed life and lived hers to the fullest.
Yvonne was very active in the Methodist Church as well as the Legion Auxillary. She helped at many dinners they served and baked goodies for every occasion.
She is survived by her two sisters Rosie (Larry) Stinette and Donna Belle (Don) Goodrich, her son Gary (Diane) Sandage, daughter Arlana (Tim) McGinley, eight grandchildren, Chris (Lisa) Sandage, Heidi (Sean) Adams, Margaret (Robb) Bohy, Angie (Mark) Baker, Mark (Jessica) McGinley, Luke (Billie) McGinley, Michelle (Corey) Merrill and Kristan (Jeff) Barta, seventeen great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, infant sister Gwendolyn, sister Dee and brother Duane.
Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home of Gordon is in charge of arrangements.
