10/19/2012 - Oliver I. (Bud) Schulz

Oliver I. (Bud) Schulz was born on his Father’s Homestead southeast of Nenzel, Nebraska on February 4, 1919 to Charles C. and Mabel (Bliss) Schulz. He passed from this life October 13, 2012.
 
He had three siblings, Homer, Marie and Leona. He attended school at a rural school two miles from his home with his older brother and sister when he was five years old. He graduated from 8th grade in 1932 and attended part of the ninth grade at the same school. Bud worked with his father on the farm/ranch for the next 25 years, slowly taking over management of the place until his father died, and then taking full management of the place.
 
June 5, 1941 Bud was united in marriage to Helen L. McDonald at her parent’s home northwest of Chadron, NE. To this union were born four daughters, JoAnn, Barbara, Diana and Margaret. He was a member and chairman of the Forest Users Association and pastured cattle on the forest reserve for 61 years, trail driving cattle 10 miles each way in the spring and fall. Bud also served on the election board in Nenzel for many years.
 
In 1969 Bud and Helen moved to Rushville, NE. He attended the Billing MT Western School of Auctioneering in 1970. He then worked at the Gordon Livestock Auction in marketing and as yard manager from August 1972 until 1987. He also worked as an auctioneer for Dierks and Hupp Auction Servic3e selling household, farm and ranch sales during that time. After he retired he enjoyed spending time at the ranch helping with haying, repairing buildings and corrals and whatever he found that needed to be done. He drove Highway 20 many times and had friends from Rushville to Valentine. Bud and Helen lived in Rushville until September 2008 when they moved to Prairie Pines Independent Living in Chadron, NE.
 
In 1934 he received Christ as his Savior and became a member of the Kilgore Baptist Church. After he moved to Rushville he moved his membership to the Rushville Methodist Church. He was very active in both churches and served on various committees in both churches.
 
Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, his parents, Mable and Charles Schulz, and all of his aunts and uncles, sisters, and brothers, son-in-law Ronald Drummond and grandson, Evan Hoffmann.

Daughters: JoAnn Drummond, Barbara (Lawrence) Hill, Diana Hoffmann, Margaret (Carroll) Dunn
 
Grandchildren: Rhonda Parks, Annette Drummond, Laura Hill, Greg Hill, and Rachel Townsley.
 
Great Grandchildren: 7
Great-Great Grandchildren: 4
 
Funeral service for will be Friday, October 19, 2012 at 10:00 AM at United Methodist Church in Chadron with Pastor Adam Davenport officiating.
 
Burial will be in Kilgore, Nebraska at 2:30 P.M.
 
Following the burial the family would like to invite friends and family to join them at the community hall in Kilgore for coffee and cake.
 
A memorial has been established at the Tri State Cowboys Museum in Gordon. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel of Chadron P.O. Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337.
