10/18/2012 - Therese I. Hinman
Therese I. Hinman, age 88, of Chadron, died Thursday, October 11, approximately 30 minutes before her 89th birthday at Chadron Community Hospital.
She was born October 12, 1923 in Wall, South Dakota to Karl and Ida (Welke) Lurz. She attended Wall public schools and received her teaching certificate in spearfish and taught school immediately after.
On December 27, 1944, she married Robert Hinman. They were married for 58 years, until his death in 2002. The couple remained in the Wall area until moving to Chadron in 1965. In addition to raising their 7 children, they cared for foster children and numerous nieces, nephews and others who came for extended stays. Therese had a day care in her home for close to 25 years, where her caring nature continued to touch the lives of so many. Unable to retire completely from caring for children, she continued to work part-time in a day care for another 10 years.
Throughout her life her faith was very important to her. She was an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and was instrumental in implementing the prayer line which is still in use today and she participated on until her death. In earlier years she was very active in Renew, Bible studies, prayer group, taught religious ed. classes and attended daily Mass for as long as her health allowed.
Therese enjoyed a good joke and laughing, visiting and spending time with family and friends was the pinnacle of her life. She belonged to a Buncco group, loved the Broncos and the Rockies, rarely missing a game. Decorating for the holidays (especially Christmas), was a pleasure she enjoyed mostly because it allowed her to bring joy to others.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, 2 infant children, 3 brothers, 4 sisters and 2 grandchildren.
