Ronald “Gary” Buchheit, age 64, died Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at his home in Hemingford.
He was born the first part of twins on January 28, 1948 in Pontiac, Michigan to Robert G. and Janice (Libby) Buchheit. He grew up in Farmington, Michigan playing baseball with his twin brother Larry as young boys. He attended Clarenceville High School where he ran varsity track and cross-country.
After graduation he pursued his machinist’s apprenticeship at Godin Tool and Die where he worked side by side with his father for four years. During this time, his love for cars, motorcycles, hunting and fishing became his passion. Gary migrated to Montana in the mid 1970’s where he went to work for the Burlington Northern Railroad. There he set roots on the Bozeman pass and married his longtime sweetheart of seven years, Julia “Jo” Desilets on September 7, 1974. Together they raised two fine young men, Robbie & Danny. In the mid 1980’s, he and his family moved to Hemingford, Nebraska where they dug their roots in deep and flourished. Gary continued to work for the Burlington Northern Railroad where he began in 1974 and after 36 years as a machinist took his retirement in 2010.
He was very active in vintage motorcycle riding, was a lifetime member of the American Motorcycle Association and enjoyed time with the Alliance Archery and Gun Clubs. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting and just plain tinkering around home. His greatest joys were spending time with his grandchildren and family.
