Jeffery Scott Fankhauser of Chadron, Nebraska died Saturday, January 28, 2012. He was born August 19, 1973 to Arnie and Allie Fankhauser in Chadron, Nebraska where he lived all his life. He attended Chadron Public Schools through the 12th grade where he participated in wrestling and football. He was also voted Homecoming King his senior year.

Shortly, after graduation, Jeff joined the United States Air Force and served four years. He attended basic training in Texas and trained for wide band communications in Biloxi, Mississippi. From there he was stationed at Ft. Harran Air Force Base as a security specialist, serving cameras at missile sites with the 90th Communications Squadron. He received many letters of appreciation and achievements awards. Upon separation from the Air Force, he returned to Chadron.

In 2001, Jeff married Christine McDaniel and to this union Zachery Scott and Travis Joel were born. They also shared the love of stepdaughter Michaela Nixon. This marriage ended in divorce in 2003. Jeff married Jennifer Swinney and shared the love of her daughter Kassy. This marriage also ended in divorce. Jeff was employed as a meter reader with Nebraska Public Power prior to being appointed the Dawes Country Veteran Service Officer. He deeply enjoyed helping veterans receive the benefits due to them after their commitment to military service. He worked very hard to see that each one received everything they deserved. On December 16, 2011 Jeff received the Presidential County Award.

He was a member of the Junior Horseshoe Club, was a member of the Grace Baptist Church, and took a missionary trip to Canada. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, spending time with his children and sharing the word of God. In his younger years, he enjoyed swimming, camping, riding his bike and playing with his friends. Jeff accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and wanted to be the man God wanted him to be in spite of life’s troubles. Everyone who knew Jeff, including his family and friends, saw that he was a truly caring and giving person.

Jeff will be deeply missed by all of us who knew and loved him. It is hard to understand why his life ended in tragedy, but he knew and we know that God understands and will now give Jeff the inner peace and love that he so deserves.

We as a family thank each and every one of you for the part you touched in Jeff’s life. We ask that you continue to pray and help us keep the special memories of Jeff a part of our daily lives here in earth until our Heavenly Father brings was all together in our Heavenly home. We know that Jeff would want each of you to know Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.

Jeffery is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ray and Jean Fankhauser of Chadron, Nebraska and Lee and Arretta Houser of Carson, Iowa.
